Meet the Emergency Medical Services Team

The Good Samaritan Hospital (GSH) emergency medical services (EMS) team is here to support the health and patient care of surrounding communities.

Richard T. Garrison, MD, Medical Director

Garrison HSDr. Richard Garrison is Medical Director of the GSH ED. He also serves the board of the Samaritan Health Partners, and the Samaritan Foundation. He is president of the Physician Management Group, Inc., and of Dayton Hyperbaric Physicians. In addition to Good Samaritan Hospital, Dr. Garrison also works at Wright Patterson's hyperbaric facility. He is a clinical professor at Wright State University School of Medicine and Emergency Medicine, a position he has held since 1983. Dr. Garrison is an FAA Senior Aviation Medical Examiner and Associate Professor of Aerospace Medicine at Wright State.

Dr. Garrison earned a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, a Master's degree in Microbiology and Immunology, and a Master's degree in Aerospace Medicine from Wright State University. He received his Medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio at Toledo in 1980, and he completed his residency at Wright State University School of Medicine's Department of Emergency Medicine. He completed a Primary Course in Hyperbaric Medicine at Palmetto-Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina.

Dr. Garrison is licensed in Ohio and is certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine. He is also certified by the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine Society. He is a certified instructor of Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and is a certified flight instructor. He is soon to take his board certification in Aerospace Medicine.

Missy Rumschik, MSN, RN, Director of Emergency Services and Capacity Management

Rumschik HSMissy Rumschik joined GSH in 1997 as a Staff Nurse in Women's Services followed by the Cardiopulmonary division then transitioned into the Emergency Department in 2000 first as a ETC Staff Nurse, a position she held until she became the ETC Clinical Nurse Educator in 2004. In 2005 Missy became the Manager of Clinical Data Abstraction for the Quality Department where she was responsible for coordinating the abstraction, warehousing, and reporting of clinical and quality data; both publicly reported and to specific agencies. She has collaborated with multidisciplinary staff across Premier as well as other hospitals to ensure quality of data collected along with best practice for patients. Missy participated in the initial, as well as the recertification, of disease certifications for Heart Failure, Acute Myocardial Infarction, Breast Cancer Care, Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery, Primary Stroke Care, Total Hip and Knee Replacement. In June of 2010 Missy rejoined the Emergency Department as the Director of Emergency Services and Capacity Management.

Missy began her nursing career in 1988 as an Intensive Care Nurse at Sisters of Charity Hospital in Buffalo, New York where she stayed until she moved to Ohio and joined GSH in 1997. She earned her Associate Degree in Nursing from Kettering College of Medical Arts in Kettering, Ohio in 1988. In 1990, she earned a Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Then in 2008 Missy earned her Masters in Nursing Administration from Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana. Currently she is working on obtaining her Certified Emergency Nurse Credentialing.

Suzanne McCurdy, ED Nurse Manager

McCurdy HSSuzanne McCurdy joined GSH in November 2003 as an ED Staff Nurse. She was named Nursing Clinical Educator in January 2005, a position she held until becoming ED Nurse Manager in November 2006.

She began her nursing career in 1984 as an Operating Room Nurse at Reid Memorial Hospital in Richmond, Indiana. During her 13-year tenure at Reid, she held a variety of nursing assignments, which included intensive and coronary care, operating room and outpatient surgery, and care of post-operative surgical patients. In October 1997, she joined the Eastern Indiana Center for Ambulatory Surgery, LLC, as Administrator and Director of Nursing, where she remained until she joined GSH in 2003.

Suzanne earned her degree in nursing at Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Evansville, Indiana, in 1984. In August 2004, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana Wesleyan University, graduating magna cum laude. She completed a Masters in Nursing Education degree from Indiana Wesleyan University in August of 2009.

Suzanne is a Certified Emergency Nurse. She is certified in Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support, and also as a Trauma Nurse Core Course instructor.

Bill Mangas, Operations Manager

Bill Mangas is the Operations Manager for the Emergency Department. His responsibilities include Employee Satisfaction, Sourcing & Supplies, Disaster Preparedness, Trauma Coordination, Chest Pain Coordination, and Medical Education including ACLS, ATLS, PALS, Hazardous Materials, and EMS Education. Bill also continues to serve as the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Coordinator, a position he has held since 2004 – serving as a liaison between area fire/EMS departments, physicians, and hospital staff.

From 2004 to 2006, Bill served as the Outreach Coordinator for the hospital's Level II Trauma Program. Prior to that, he was the EMS Manager of the Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy (1999 to 2004). His background also includes over 25 years experience in critical care (including high-volume emergency departments and trauma centers), and 30 years' experience as a firefighter and paramedic as a volunteer, career firefighter, training office, lieutenant, and chief.

Mr. Mangas is a graduate of Louisiana State University, holding a degree in Fire & Emergency Services. In addition to being a Firefighter II, Paramedic, and EMS Instructor, he holds many specialty certifications including being a certified provider and instructor of ACLS, ATLS, BLS, PALS, PHTLS, and is a Haz Mat Technician. He is certified by the National Fire Academy in EMS Management, Organizational Theory, Interpersonal Dynamics, Instructional Technologies, and Financial Management. Mr. Mangas is a Firefighter/Paramedic for Englewood Fire Department.
