My name is John – this is my wife, Amy, and we live in South Charleston, Ohio and have three children who were born at Good Sam Hospital.
My doctor works here, and we came, took a tour of the hospital, really liked the people who worked here. Really liked the staff. Were impressed by everything we saw and just decided that this is where we would deliver.
We love the nursing staff. We got to know them by name. Our nurses stayed with us for the duration of the labor and explained everything that was going on. They walked us through step by step what was going to be happening. I just can’t speak enough about how they’ve made him comfortable, did whatever they could to make it a good experience for us. With Molly, our nurse, stayed after her shift was over to make sure that we got settled in, after she was born, and then came back and visited us the next day, just to say “hi” and see the baby. So, I was really, really impressed. They’re really personable, really sweet, and did whatever they could to make our stay comfortable and, you know, enjoyable.
As far as the accommodations for spouses….I mean, we had a sofa in the room that made into a bed that you could stay in the room with the baby, and it was enjoyable to stay as a family – as a new family.
Although there are a lot of different birthing options available, when I decided to deliver here, I said, “well, I just want to have a natural childbirth…I don’t want to do any epidural or any pain medicine.” And when I got here, I changed my mind, and they accommodated that.
I think we would recommend Good Sam. A lot of people ask why did we go that far…or why do we go over there? And it just so happened that we came over here with Josie that far and, after having Josie, we decided that this would be the hospital we would come back to for all our children.
On the way here, we passed three other hospitals, and a lot of our friends said, “why would you drive that far to deliver your baby?” But when they came to visit, they understood. They were like, “oh wow! The rooms are so nice! The people are so nice!” So they realized why we came here rather than anywhere else.
