Services and Procedures
The Respiratory Care Department provides services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We work with all departments, providing care to patients in the Emergency Room, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Post-Anesthesia Care Unit, The Family Birthing Center, Advanced Care Unit, Cardiovascular Intensive Care, Cardiovascular Recovery Room and all other inpatient nursing units. We service both inpatients and outpatients in Endoscopy and the Pulmonary Function Laboratory. Our services include:
- Breathing treatments
- Oxygen therapy
- Noninvasive monitoring
- Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT)
- Bronchoscopy procedures
- Bronchial Thermoplasty
- Endotracheal intubations
- Ventilator management
- Blood gas laboratory management
- CPAP and Bi-PAP therapy
- CPR
- High-risk delivery and infant intubation and stabilization
- Arterial blood gas sampling
- Patient education
- Pulmonary Rehab-Phase 1
- Smoking Cessation and Disease Management Counseling
The Respiratory Therapist is part of the Interdisciplinary Team in the ICU. They are always available to consult with doctors and nurses to improve the quality care for all ICU patients. In addition, we are the only hospital in the area to have a Respiratory Therapist in attendance at all labor and deliveries.
- Respiratory Therapists treat a wide spectrum of patients, including those with:
- Asthma
- Cardiac conditions
- Pneumonia
- Chronic lung diseases
- Emphysema
- Emergency situations that impair breathing
