About the Health Ministries Program
Health Ministries emphasizes the wholeness of body, mind and spirit within the members of a congregation. Healing, health and wellness are promoted among the members and the people in the community the congregation serves. This ministry is a cooperative effort that may include members interested in health and wholeness, hospitals and other health agencies in the community. Health Ministries provide education, information and resources in the areas of disease prevention and wellness promotion to improve the health of the community.
The GSH Health Ministries program was established in 1994 as part of the hospital’s mission to serve the community. It serves as a coach and mentor to Faith Community Nurses and Health Ministers to strengthen and support the ongoing development of whole-person ministries leading to the integration of faith and health in congregations.
The GSH Health Ministries Program with the assistance, collaboration and support of area congregations, their leaders and the community, strives to:
- Help the community view health as a vital component of religious and spiritual life
- Provide education that assists persons with preventative health care, including accepting increased responsibility for maintaining health
- Provide congregation members with opportunities to help each other meet their health and wellness needs
- Educate and promote healthy lifestyles within congregations and the community
