‘Brake for Breakfast’ at Good Samaritan North Health Center Encourages Women to Get Mammograms

Program by Good Samaritan Hospital-Dayton Provides Free Breakfast to Commuters
for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

DAYTON, OHIO, October 19, 2009 – The Good Samaritan Hospital Samaritan Breast Center is celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness Month and encouraging women to get mammograms with a “Brake for Breakfast” event on Thursday, Oct. 22 from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m.

During the morning commute, Good Samaritan will be offering a free breakfast – while supplies last – to women who drive through the “Brake for Breakfast,” being held at the 8900 N. Main Street parking lot next to Good Samaritan North Health Center in Englewood. A team of volunteers will be on hand to pass out goodies from the Samaritan Breast Center and a free breakfast to go – drivers won’t even have to leave their cars to participate.

“Our goal is to encourage women 40 and older to get their annual mammograms and tell their mothers, sisters and daughters to do the same,” said Dr. Thomas Heck, co-medical director of the Samaritan Breast Center. “We see this event as a fun way to show women that taking care of their health should be part of their daily routine.”

Staffed with caring professionals and newly remodeled décor, the Samaritan Breast Center provides comprehensive, personalized services for breast health. The staff works closely with the Samaritan Cancer and Samaritan Surgery centers, which along with the Samaritan Breast Center are located at Good Samaritan North Health Center, offering free parking and convenient scheduling. Advanced imaging services available through the Samaritan Breast Center include digital mammography, breast-specific MRI, PET/CT scans, and ultrasound exams.

The Good Samaritan Hospital breast cancer program was the first in the nation to receive Gold Seal certification in breast cancer care from the Joint Commission Disease-Specific Certification Program. In addition, the Samaritan Breast Center is the only program in Dayton and one of only three in Ohio to have been granted full accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, a program administered by the American College of Surgeons.
