Good Samaritan Hospital and New Lebanon Local School District Announce Agreement

DAYTON, OHIO, October 9, 2009 – Good Samaritan Hospital and the New Lebanon Local School District today announced a 10-year, $10,000 per year agreement for the hospital to support the high school’s sports facilities and programs. The new agreement was announced at the Dixie High School football game where school administrators were presented with a check from Good Samaritan Hospital. The football stadium and other sports venues will soon include signage that reflects the partnership: Dixie Athletic Programs supported by Good Samaritan Hospital.

“We see our relationships with local schools as a part of our responsibility to bring health and wellness education to the community,” said Mark Shaker, president and CEO of Good Samaritan Hospital. “In the past several years we have developed a number of programs that benefit not only the safety of athletes on the field, but also help young people learn more about careers in health sciences and offer wellness programs for school district employees.”

The agreement between Good Samaritan and Dixie High School adds to the hospital’s current support for sports medicine services and athletic training for its student athletes. Additionally, the relationship will include opportunities for employee wellness and student health care career education programs.

“Our students are already seeing the benefits of our relationship with Good Samaritan Hospital, both academically and athletically,” said Dr. Barbara Curry, Superintendent of the New Lebanon Local Schools. “Our participation in the hospital’s GSH 101 program earlier this year gave our students insight into the human anatomy and a great introduction to the many careers available in emergency medicine. In addition, we are receiving certified athletic services for our athletes. We look forward to developing a strong partnership with Good Samaritan Hospital.”
