Scholarship Recipient Kelly Carr-Walden

H Kelly WaldenIn November 2007, Kelly Carr-Walden, RD, BSN, CEN, earned her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing through a partnership between Indiana Wesleyan University and Beachler Nursing University.  “The process took about 18 months and I worked full-time throughout,” Kelly explains.  “Good Samaritan removed all the barriers to professional growth for me – even parking!  My BSN degree has had a huge impact on my career path,” she continues.  “It didn’t necessarily make me a better clinical nurse, but it broadened my perspective and opened the door to all that nursing can be.”  In 2010, Kelly became the Emergency Department’s clinical nursing educator, a pivotal position as the hospital transitioned to an electronic medical records system.

Good Samaritan’s innovative solutions to nursing education helped qualify the hospital for what is the highest nursing honor - Magnet recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. With this designation, Good Sam joins an elite group of hospitals nationwide that have achieved the highest level of excellence in nursing.  Magnet hospitals attract the best nurses, top physicians and the finest support staff.
