Dayton and Arcanum, Ohio – August 29, 2008-- Good Samaritan Hospital and the Board of Education of the Arcanum-Butler Local Schools has approved a 10-year agreement in which Arcanum-Butler students, faculty and staff will gain improved access to health care services. Good Samaritan and Arcanum-Butler Local Schools celebrated the partnership during pre-game activities on Friday, Aug. 29.
Under the terms of the agreement, Arcanum-Butler Local Schools will receive on-site athletic training and sports medicine services from the Good Samaritan Hospital Sports Medicine program, as well as funds to support its athletic programs and health and nutrition education. This will be in exchange for naming rights at the school’s athletic facilities and other cooperative marketing programs. The total value for this agreement is $120,000 over a 10-year period.
As a result of the sponsorship agreement, the school district is in the initial planning stages for the construction of softball and baseball fields at Arcanum High School, with an expected completion date in 2010. The new fields will be named “Good Samaritan North Fields,” after the Good Samaritan North Health Center in Englewood, Ohio. Until the new fields are complete, Arcanum athletes will continue to use community fields for their games.
“When the new fields are complete, for the first time in years our students will have the opportunity to play baseball and softball on their own fields,” said Joe Scholler, Arcanum-Butler Local Schools superintendent. “In addition to giving our students this great athletic resource, we’re also excited to partner with Good Samaritan Hospital on sports programming and health and wellness opportunities.”
This agreement to will allow Arcanum-Butler schools to focus its investments on academic programs, while creating safer playing conditions for athletes and providing improved access to top quality health care services. Students, faculty and staff from Arcanum-Butler schools will also be able to take advantage of prevention, wellness and nutrition education services from Good Samaritan Hospital.
“This sponsorship is our mission at work,” said Mark Shaker, president and CEO of Good Samaritan Hospital. “By bringing our hospital and its resources to local communities such as Arcanum, we’re able to build healthier communities and improve access to important health care services and wellness education.”
