Pastoral Care

The Good Samaritan Hospital (GSH) Pastoral Care Department realizes the importance of addressing your spiritual needs. We understand that healing and wholeness require balanced attention to all aspects of a patient’s experience. To help meet this need, we offer a variety of services.

Chaplaincy Services

The Pastoral Care staff at GSH is available to patients and their families 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our staff is a highly trained, diverse group of chaplains representing many faith traditions. Upon request, your nurse can arrange for a bedside visit by a chaplain for you or your loved one. You may also contact a chaplain during regular business hours, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, by calling Pastoral Care at 937-734-2165. In addition, you can dial extension “0” at any time and the operator will call a chaplain for you.

Chapel Services

The GSH Pastoral Care Department offers the following worship services in the hospital chapel:

• Interfaith worship service every Sunday at 9:30 a.m.
• Catholic Mass every Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
• Jewish services as scheduled

All services are available on closed-circuit TV, channel 50.

Other Pastoral Care Department Services

Communion

Communion is offered daily to Catholic patients upon request. Communion/The Lord’s Supper is also available upon request for Protestant patients. Contact Pastoral Care at extension 2165 or tell your nurse if you wish to receive this Sacrament.

Coping With Loss

The GSH Pastoral Care Department offers bereavement support groups for adults who have had a loved one die and are having difficulty dealing with their loss.  Our grief support groups offer a supportive and healing environment where persons can share their experiences, learn about the grieving process, and identify some new coping skills that promote healing.  Meetings are free of charge and open to any adult in the community who has lost a loved one.
