Room Amenities

Your Room

We are pleased you have chosen Good Samaritan Hospital (GSH) for your care. Our room amenities are designed to make your hospital stay as comfortable as possible. Soon after you are admitted to the hospital, your nurse will show you around your room.

Bedside Controls

Your bed is equipped with a convenient control handset. Unless your nurse instructs you to leave your bed in a certain position for medical reasons, you can raise or lower parts of it simply by pushing a button. Typically, we’ll keep your bed in the “low” position for your safety. We may raise the rails when you’re sleeping or when you have been given medications that make you drowsy.

Call Button

Your nurse call button is on the device that also operates your lights, TV, and radio. To call your nurse, just push the button showing a picture of a nurse. A member of the nursing staff will respond promptly.

During the Night

For your comfort and safety, please stay in bed after you have been prepared for the night. For help during the night, please use your nurse call button.

Television and Radio

A high-definition, flat-screen TV with satellite service delivers a wide variety of family-friendly programming, including free movies and patient education.

Guides posted in each room list the channels on our system. They include local and commercial public television stations such as ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, CW, and the PBS networks. The TBS entertainment channel, ESPN sports, Cable News Network (CNN) and CNN Headline News, Fox News, and TBN religious programming are also available on your television. Our movie channel offers a selection of feature films. Your entertainment choices also include four local radio stations and Radio Reading Service.

Please see the Dayton Daily News that is delivered daily to your room for each day’s programs and viewing times.

We also provide a continuous schedule of informative programming on our Patient Education channels. Your nurse may recommend specific programs for you to view based on your medical condition.

If you experience a problem with your television service, please alert your nurse.

Adapter for Hearing Impaired Patients

We offer a special TV caption adapter for those who are hearing impaired. Talk with your nurse if you wish to use this adapter.

If you experience a problem with your television service, please alert your nurse.

Telephone

The telephone by your bedside is for your private use. You may receive calls in your room from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. If you do not wish to be disturbed, you may turn off the ringer on your phone.

To place a call within the hospital, pick up the handset and then dial the four-digit extension number.

TDD/TTY Phones

TDD/TTY phones are available to patients who require this service.

Cell Phone Use

Our patients and visitors are welcome to use cell telephones and other wireless devices within our facilities. However, there are areas where cell phone and wireless device usage is not allowed because it may interfere with patient monitoring equipment. These areas are marked by a sign stating cell phones and wireless devices are not to be used. Click here to see GSH’s cell phone policy.

Newspaper

We are pleased to provide a free copy of the Dayton Daily News in your room each day.

Wireless Internet Access

GSH is pleased to offer our patients and visitors free wireless Internet access in all of the public areas of our main hospital campus and Good Samaritan North, including waiting rooms, patient rooms, libraries, and cafeterias.

Room Temperature

All rooms are centrally heated and air-conditioned. If your room temperature is uncomfortable, please notify your nurse.

Meals

Most patients will order their meals each day from a card offering food choices. If a patient’s medical condition calls for a restricted diet, a pre-selected meal based on the patient’s preferences and physician’s guidelines will be delivered during regular meal times.

Cleaning

Your room was professionally cleaned and inspected before your admission, and it will be cleaned daily by a member of the housekeeping staff. Bed linen is changed every other day, or more often as needed. If you need any additional items or services, please contact your nurse.
