Meet the Samaritan Diabetes Center (SDC) team.

Joyce E. Gray, BSN, RN, Manager

GrayJoyce Gray has many years of nursing experience at Good Samaritan Hospital (GSH) and has been involved in many nursing initiatives. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Wright State University.

As the manager of Samaritan Sleep Center, Ms. Gray often speaks as an expert at local events on topics related to the importance of sleep and the treatment of sleep disorders. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Ohio Sleep Society.

Ms. Gray is instrumental in attaining national certification for both Samaritan Diabetes Center and Samaritan Sleep Center.

Becky Harrold, MS, RN, Certified Diabetes Educator

Harrold HSBecky Harrold is a Certified Diabetes Educator and is the full-time nurse instructor at Samaritan Diabetes Center. Ms. Harrold teaches classes on the basics of diabetes care for patients with type 1, type 2 and gestational diabetes. She teaches about managing blood sugar, taking medications and testing blood sugar. Ms. Harrold is a certified insulin pump trainer and provides education for those using pumps for blood sugar control.

Ms. Harrold’s experience includes working as an ICU nurse at Good Samaritan Hospital. She holds a Master of Science in Nursing and is certified as an Insulin Pump Trainer.

Marilyn R. Tooke, MSN, RN, Inpatient Diabetes Education Coordinator

TookeMarilyn Tooke is the Inpatient Diabetes Education Coordinator for Samaritan Diabetes Center. She sees patients admitted to Good Samaritan Hospital who need to learn how to care for their diabetes, and assists them in registering for outpatient diabetes classes at Samaritan Diabetes Center.

Ms. Tooke’s experience includes a variety of positions in nursing at GSH. She has a Master’s degree in Nursing Leadership and Administration from Ball State University. Ms. Tooke is also certified in Diabetes Education.

Kathie Stevens, MS, RD, LD, CDE

StevensKathie Stevens is the full-time Diabetes Dietitian Educator at Samaritan Diabetes Center. She teaches classes on the basics of nutrition and diabetes and provides one-on-one nutrition counseling for patients with diabetes. Ms. Stevens focuses on meal planning, carbohydrate counting, label reading and healthy nutrition education.

Ms. Stevens has a Master’s degree in Dietetics Education from Indiana-Purdue University. She is also certified in Diabetes Education.

Rita M. Erdmann, BSN, MGS, RN, CDE

Erdmann HSRita Erdmann is the part-time Nurse Educator for both the inpatient and the outpatient center. Ms. Erdmann covers classes and individual appointments for the inpatient nurse, the outpatient nurse and the dietitian. She is a vital part of the Samaritan Diabetes Center program.

Ms. Erdmann holds a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Wright State University and a Master’s degree in Gerontological Studies from Miami University. She is also certified in Diabetes Education.
