Meet the Good Samaritan Hospital (GSH) Sports Medicine Center staff.

James Klosterman, MD

HS - KlostermanDr. James Klosterman is the Director of Sports Surgery for The Sports Medicine Center at Good Samaritan Hospital. He practices at Montgomery Orthopedic Surgeons, Inc. and specializes in sports-related injuries, shoulder reconstruction, complex knee reconstruction, and minimally invasive knee replacement surgery.

Dr. Klosterman is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons and a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He is a leader in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction in the Dayton area and has a special interest in ACL injury prevention.

Dr. Klosterman serves as orthopedic consultant for the University of Dayton Women’s basketball team and for ten area high schools.  Dr. Klosterman was named Physician of the Year by the Ohio Athletic Training Association in 2007.

Mike Barrow, MD

HS - BarrowDr. Mike Barrow is a sports medicine physician at Samaritan North Family Physicians. He is a graduate of Indiana University School of Medicine and is board certified in Family Practice and Sports Medicine.

Dr. Barrow received the Public Health Award from the American Academy of Family Physicians and served as an attending physician for the Sports Medicine Clinic, United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Dr. Barrow serves as the Assistant Team Physician for the University of Dayton Women’s basketball team. He is the team physician for the Northmont City Schools in Dayton. Dr. Barrow received the High School Team Physician of the Year Award from the Ohio Athletic Trainers Association in 2004.

Shad Bernard, MA, AT

HS BernardShad Bernard joined Good Samaritan Hospital (GSH) Sports Medicine as Manager of Sports Medicine in December 2006. Prior to joining GSH, he was a Staff Athletic Trainer with Dayton Sports Medicine Institute and Pool Athletic Trainer at Upper Valley Medical Center in Tipp City, Ohio. He began his career in 1996 as a Camp Administrator and Athletic Trainer with the Universal Cheerleaders Association in Memphis.

Shad earned an associate degree in Allied Health at Barton County Community College in Great Bend, Kansas. He graduated from Charleston Southern University in Charleston, South Carolina, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education and Business Administration. He earned his Master of Arts degree in Sports Administration/Marketing from Morehead State University in Morehead, Kentucky.

His professional internships include working with the Cincinnati Bengals, the South Carolina Stingrays hockey team, the Charleston Riverdogs baseball team, and the Houston Astros. Shad is a certified Athletic Trainer and licensed in the state of Ohio. His is also a certified CPR Instructor for the American Red Cross and a CPR Professional Rescuer.

Jeff Barnhart, AT (Dixie High School)

BarnhartJeff joined the sports medicine team at Good Samaritan Hostpital December 2011.  Previously Jeff worked as the Athletic Trainer for Dayton Public Schools working with Ponitz Career Technology Center and Belmont High School.  Jeff started working for the Athletic Training staff at Good Samaritan Hospital with Greenville High School.  Now Jeff works with the student athletes at Dixie High School.

Jeff is a graduate of Lee University where he earned his Bachelor’s of Science in Athletic Training.  Jeff is a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association and Ohio Athletic Trainers' Association. Jeff is a certified Athletic Trainer and licensed in the state of Ohio as an Athletic Trainer.

Nikolaus Berger, MS, AT, (Wayne High School)

HS BergerNik came to Good Samaritan Hospital from Ashland University where he was the Head Athletic Trainer for men’s and women’s soccer, wrestling, and baseball. He began working for Samaritan North Sports Medicine in July of 2007.

Nik graduated from Bowling Green State University where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Education. He attended Ohio University and received his Master of Science degree in Physical Education/Athletic Training. 
 
Nik is currently the Head Athletic Trainer for Wayne High School. He is a nationally certified Athletic Trainer and licensed in the state of Ohio. He is also a certified CPR instructor for the American Heart Association. 

Victor Billheimer, MS, AT, CSCS (Brookville High School)

HS BillheimerVic Billheimer is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training. He received a Master of Science degree in Exercise Physiology from Marshall University in West Virginia. 

Vic joined the Samaritan North Sports Medicine family in December 2006. He is a member of the United States Naval Reserves. Prior to Vic’s employment with Good Samaritan Hospital, he was an Athletic Trainer for the Dayton Sports Medicine Institute.

Vic is a nationally certified Athletic Trainer and licensed in the state of Ohio. He is a member of the National Athletic Trainer’s Association, Great Lakes Athletic Trainer’s Association, Ohio Athletic Trainer’s Association, the Greater Dayton Athletic Trainer’s Association, and the Armed Forces Athletic Trainer’s Association.

In addition, Vic is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association where he is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. He is a certified CPR instructor for the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.

Mary Brunner, MS, AT (Chaminade-Julienne High School)

BrunnerMary joined the Samaritan North Sports Medicine team in 2008 working with Chaminade-Julienne High School.  Mary graduated in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from Urbana University.  From Urbana she went on to obtain her Masters of Science degree from California University of Pennsylvania
While in PA she was the Athletic Trainer for Southmoreland High School.  Mary is a member of the NATA and is a nationally certified Athletic Trainer.  She is also licensed in the state of Ohio to practice athletic training. 

 Josh Bumgardner, AT

HS BumgardnerJoshua Bumgardner joined the Good Samaritan team in August of 2008.  He came to us from Wilmington College where he earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Athletic Training.  Josh is nationally certified as an Athletic Trainer and licensed in the state of Ohio. 

 


Amanda Fine, AT (Bethel High School)

HS FineAmanda Fine joined the Samaritan North Sports Medicine team in August 2002.  She is a graduate of Wilmington College in Ohio, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training and Sports Management. 

Amanda has held several positions within our department including Lead Athletic Trainer for Samaritan North Sports Medicine and Athletic Trainer for Brookville High School. She is currently the Athletic Trainer for Bethel High School. 

Prior to her employment at Good Samaritan Hospital, Amanda was a Bracing Specialist for Marquis Health Care where she assisted in the opening of several physician practices.

Amanda is a nationally certified Athletic Trainer and licensed by the state of Ohio.  She is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, Great Lakes Athletic Trainers Association, Ohio Athletic Trainers Association, and the Greater Dayton Athletic Trainers Association. She is also a certified CPR instructor for the American Heart Association.

Jon Hartman, MPE, AT (Northmont High School)

 HS HartmanJon Hartman joins the Good Samaritan Hospital team as the Athletic Trainer for Northmont High School.  He is a graduate of Ashland University in Ashland, OH where he earned his Bachelors in Athletic Training.  He then attended Idaho State University where he earned his masters degree in Physical Education/Athletic Administration.

Before coming to Dayton, OH, Jon worked as a civilian contractor for the US Army at Fort Jackson Army Base, SC, providing athletic training services for soldiers in basic and advanced training.  He also worked for a well respected orthopedic group providing casting, bracing, and post operative wound care services.  Jon is a nationally certified Athletic Trainer and is licensed in the state of Ohio.

Brett Hoffman, MS, AT, CSCS (Dayton Demonz / Sports Performance)

HS HoffmanBrett Hoffman is a graduate of Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania, where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Athletic Training. He earned his Master of Science degree from Ohio University.  In addition to working with athletes to help them accomplish their sports performance goals Brett is a trainer for the Dayton Demonz.

Prior to joining the Sports Medicine Center at Good Samaritan Hospital, Brett was the Head Athletic Trainer, and a professor, at Charleston Southern University in South Carolina. He was also Assistant Athletic Trainer at the University of South Carolina in Columbia. He has served as the head athletic trainer in professional hockey, soccer and arena football. He joined Samaritan North Sports Medicine in January 2008.

Brett is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, Great Lakes Athletic Trainers Association, Ohio Athletic Trainers Association, Greater Dayton Athletic Trainers Association and the National Strength and Conditioning Association. 

Brett is a nationally certified Athletic Trainer and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. He is licensed by the state of Ohio and a certified CPR instructor for the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.

Nicole Jones, AT (Wayne High School)

JonesNicole joined Good Samaritan Hospital in July of 2012 as an Athletic Trainer for Wayne High School. She received her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Athletic Training from Xavier University in 2011. In 2012, Nicole graduated from Ohio University with her Master’s of Science degree in Athletic Training. While pursuing her degree, Nicole worked as the Head Athletic Trainer at Alexander High School through her graduate assistantship and also served as a Clinical Instructor for undergraduate Athletic Training Majors at Ohio University.

Nicole is nationally certified as an Athletic Trainer and is licensed in the state of Ohio. She is also a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association.

Justin Kirchmer, CSCS (Sports Performance)

KirchmerJustin Kirchmer joined the Good Samaritan Sports Medicine team as an Exercise Physiologist in 2011.  He comes to us as a graduate of The Ohio State University where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science with a minor in Human Nutrition.  Justin currently runs numerous sports performance and health and wellness programs including the SNAPP program,  SportsmetricsTM program, Healthy Heroes, Better Than Before, and Anything But.  In addition Justin is also involved in patient aftercare.

Before coming to Good Samaritan Hospital, Justin was as an intern for the Columbus Crew where he assisted with their operations and training.  He has also spent time as an intern for the Kettering Medical Center Sports Acceleration Program.  Justin holds a certification as an ACE Certified personal Trainer, a USA weightlifting Level 1 Certified Coach, and he is a current member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).

Teresa Leeper, AT (Arcanum High School and Franklin-Monroe High School)

HS LeeperTeresa Leeper joined the Good Samaritan Sports Medicine family in August 2001. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education, with an emphasis in Athletic Training, from Hanover College in Indiana. 

Teresa has held several positions within the Sports Medicine Center, including Athletic Trainer for Tri-Village High School and Vandalia-Butler Middle Schools in Dayton.
 
Teresa is a nationally certified Athletic Trainer and licensed by the state of Ohio. She is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, Great Lakes Athletic Trainers Association, Ohio Athletic Trainers Association, and the Greater Dayton Athletic Trainers Association. She is also a certified CPR instructor for the American Heart Association.

Jonathan Nemeth, AT (Trotwood Madison High School)

 NemethJonathan joined the Good Samaritan Sports Medicine family in 2011 as an Athletic Trainer for Trotwood-Madison High school.  He is a graduate of Wright State University where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training.

Before coming to our team Jonathan worked at Dixie Chiropractic as a rehabilitation and Therapy Assistant.  He has also performed volunteer work for the Dayton Special Olympics.  Jonathan is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and is a nationally certified athletic trainer.  He is also licensed in the state of Ohio to practice athletic training.

Eric Newman, AT (Northmont High School)

Eric Newman has been with Good Samaritan Hospital since 2001.  Eric serves as an Athletic Trainer for Northmont High School.  Eric teaches Health at Northmont High School and has been doing so since 2005.  He is a graduate of Wright State University where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Education and Athletic Training in 1993.

Before coming to Good Samaritan Hospital, Eric worked as the Head Athletic Trainer and Adjunct Instructor at Clark State Community College.  Eric is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA).  He is also a nationally certified Athletic Trainer and is licensed in the state of Ohio.

Stephanie Prechtel, AT (Tri-County North High School

PrechtelStephanie joined the Good Samaritan Sports Medicine team in July of 2012, as the Athletic Trainer for Tri-County North High School.  She is a graduate from Wilmington College, where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training. Stephanie then attended Valdosta State University in Georgia, to complete her Master’s in Education.  She is a nationally certified Athletic Trainer and is licensed in the state of Ohio.

 

Niles Rosner, AT (Vandalia-Butler High School)

RosnerNiles joined the Good Samaritan Sports Medicine team in 2012.  Niles graduated in May 2012 with a Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training from Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio. He is one of two Athletic Trainers at Vandalia-Butler High School. 

Before joining us Niles served as Athletic Training intern for the Dayton Gems minor league hockey team for the 2010-2011 season as well as athletic training intern for the Columbus Crew major league soccer team for the 2011 season. He also assisted with pre-season practices for Sporting Kansas City's major league soccer team. In addition, Niles interned with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes as a volunteer Athletic Trainer for sports camps. He was a nationally certified EMT from the fall of 2008 to the spring of 2012. Niles is nationally certified as an Athletic Trainer and is licensed in the state of Ohio. He is also a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association.

Mitchell Simmons, AT (Jefferson and Trotwood-Madison High School)

SimmonsMitchell joined the Sports Medicine Center at  Good Samaritan Hospital as a graduate of Capital University where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training. He is the Athletic Trainer for Jefferson High School and Assistant Athletic Trainer at Trotwood-Madison High school.

Before coming to our team did volunteer work for the Columbus Special Olympics. He also had an internship with Nova Care Rehabilitation in Columbus.

Mitchell is a member of the NATA and is a nationally certified Athletic Trainer.  He is also licensed in the state of Ohio to practice athletic training.

Gregory Sutton, AT (Vandalia-Butler)

Sutton HSGreg is currently an Athletic Trainer for the Sports Medicine Center at Good Samaritan Hospital.  He is a 2008 graduate of Wright State University.  Greg is currently a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, Great Lakes Athletic Association, and the Ohio Athletic Trainers Association.  He is nationally certified and state licensed as an Athletic Trainer.
